New requirements for secure online shopping

What does the change effective from January 1, 2021, mean?

When you make purchases online, you must, starting January 1 2021, sign with Mobile BankID, BankID or NemID. If the online store does not offer the opportunity to sign with Mobile BankID – the transaction will be declined. This legal change applies within Europe.

Exception:

  • Purchases under 30 Euro can be approved without authentication through Mobile BankID, BankID or NemID.
  • Up to 5 purchases under 30 Euro can be made without Mobile BankID, BankID or NemID.
  • 5 purchases under 30 Euro, but if the total exceeds 100 Euro – Mobilt BankID, BankID or NemID is required.

Can I make online purchases without Mobile BankID, BankID or NemID?

No. If the online store does not offer the opportunity to sign with Mobile BankID – the transaction will be declined from January 1, 2021. This is for both your own and our safety.

I have identified myself with a mobile bank ID, BankID or NemID, but the transaction was still declined – why?

In individual cases, the transaction may have incorrectly coded in the store’s system, and interpreted as a transaction that does not meet the new requirements. This may occur when we are processing a transaction that is misinterpreted – this will render the transaction as declined. It is the store’s responsibility to correct this.

Why does some of my other cards work, but not the one I have with you?

The new legal requirement within PSD2 applies to all card issuers and will be implemented during January 2021. As we care about both your and our security, we will implement the security update directly on January 1, 2021.

What can I as a customer do?

If the online store does not offer secure online shopping with Mobilt BankID, BankID or NemID, we recommend that you choose another store that offer secure online shopping.

How can I find out if the store provides 3D Secure payment solutions?

Read the store’s information about payment solutions.
